Things I Love

How nuts are these chocolate brown bags? I can't remember how I found these guys, but I had the site bookmarked for obvious reasons. Oversized and perfect for cooler weather. Plenty of room to stash a scarf or tie one right onto the bag.

Mad About Mint!

Monday, August 29, 2011

I ran across these mint green wedges and fell in love with the color. It was only after a couple of minutes that I remembered this was the exact color of my first Homecoming dress (cue nostalgic flashback). So, I promptly went to my favorite place to find more fun items in this amazing color...

I curated my very first (of many to come) Etsy treasury with all of the listings that caught my eye. Some are vintage, some are quirky, some are handmade. But they are all mint and all fabulous!

Check out the treasury HERE and enjoy!

Recently, I've been going back to old designs and updating them a bit. For this one, I took a previous engagement party invitation design, added these sweet little birds and changed up the colors. I also formatted the birds and branch to be printed on cocktail napkins. A sweet little afterthought to carry your invitations over into the event!

Need a Lift?

It's shoes like this that make me wish I weren't so tall. (But do people actually wear these? And not break an ankle?) They are exactly what I'm looking forward to this fall... maroon, leopard and sparkles...

All My Single Ladies...

... meet your potential new boyfriends.

Oh my goodness, these stickers from Nowvember have brightened my day. Haha. Although, I shouldn't be laughing since I have some pretty heinous yearbook photos of myself as well!

I finally found the perfect pleated midi skirt to transition from summer to fall! (And I've got my eye on two others... one with polka dots!! woohoo!)

Japanese Sparkle

Two Japanese designers, Atsuyo and Akiko, make up the team behind this e-site's fun accessories and screenprinted shirts. I love how adding a puff or a sequin make each piece playful and imaginative. Appropriate for both a child and and a child at heart!

Print Your Own Fabric!

Monday, August 22, 2011

I was thumbing through House Beautiful today on my lunch break and had a mild heart palpitation when I saw an article about Spoonflower. Mainly because I was searching for a gray chevron printed shower curtain and could not find a reasonably priced one ANYWHERE. Spoonflower has chevron prints galore not to mention you can make your own. You basically design your fabric, submit the design and have it printed on as much fabric as your heart desires.

The hardest part is clicking through all the patterns to find your favorite ones as the collection is pretty extensive. Some of the designs include a gallery of projects that have been made with that specific fabric. Genius!

Watercolor Envy

I broke out my watercolors and brushes two nights ago for the first time in probably 4 years. Let's just say, I put them back up after about an hour. I had totally forgotten how difficult the medium is to work with. (Or maybe I'm just lacking that natural skill/patience that watercolor painters have?) Either way, after looking at my own paintings and then looking at THESE paintings from Silver Ridge Studio, I have a new appreciation for the art. Amazing colors. They sort of make me want to give it another try?

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Remember those fluffy balls you used for arts in crafts in like elementary school? How awesome are they for garlands and even an ottoman for a kids room?! I seriously have passed by them a million times in the craft store and not once have I thought to use them in this way. File this idea away for a rainy day craft project!

Just some pattern mixing ideas for an everyday outfit. Coral, stripes, leopard and navy. Hmm those all sound perfect for a day of shopping... or working (ugh).

I'm really jumping on the bandwagon with stripes and leopard print by the way. I wear these shoes ALL the time. And beforehand, I was really debating on whether or not to buy them. They are easy to transition from day to night and are just plain fun to wear. Really cute with maxi skirts and dresses...

They are Carlos Santana and unfortunately, the only pair that I could find is zebra HERE. So if you ever find a pair of leopard flats, scoop em up. They must be popular.

Style at Home via The Glitter Guide

I'm so very crushing on the home of Catherine Hallelu. If you follow me on Pinterest, you probably have already noticed that I pinned like every photo from this photoshoot. Obsessed - from the little fringe garland on her corkboard to the glitter Audrey Hepburn. (You've got to be kidding me!) I do, however, have that Domino book, chunky wedges and a black and white cowhide rug - so clearly I'm headed in the right direction...

I was asked by a friend where exactly I shop and my answer was, well, the internet.  With a plethora of sample sales at your fingertips, you can score great finds on amazing brands. So I decided to share my favorite sites below (which just happen to be in order of favorites. ) You can click on each and be taken directly to the site for an invitation from me to join, so click away!

FYI I've ordered from all from all of these, so I can say they are sites that I trust and that have delivered great product and customer service.
And these are JUST A FEW! I have a ton of other home decor sites, I'll be sharing as well!

Little Red Dress

Friday, August 12, 2011

I'm gearing up for Red Dress Run tomorrow in New Orleans, and thought I'd post these very red and very French photographs by Camilla Akrans. Mostly because I'd like to think I might look this chic wearing a sparkly red dress in 100 degree Louisiana heat tomorrow morning. No chance.

Have no idea what I'm talking about? Every year, Red Dress Run takes place in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It's a race that doubles as a fundraiser, but there are two things I might point out:

1. You must wear a red dress - male or female
2. You will be drinking alcohol

I'm pretty sure you know where this is going... and it's going to look nothing like the sophisticated pictures in this post.

And yes, I'll be wearing a fanny pack. WOOOO.

You Make Me Melt

Thursday, August 11, 2011

I realized the other day that I never posted all the neat things Beau (from The Mended Nest) and I saw at the Art Melt Preview Party! Not all art shows are boring, and this one had lots of eclectic and unexpected pieces of work. (So, if you like what you see, you should probably consider attending next year's event.)

Deconstructed for the Office!

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

I didn't plan on doing two outfit posts in a row wearing cropped slacks, and I've found myself in a bit of an "office attire" series of posts, but I'm just so tired of seeing people put ZERO effort into their work attire!! I'm not saying wear a suit and dress pants everyday, just make yourself look pulled together! So today's post is preppy, work appropriate and color blocked. (I love turquoise and navy together!) A chic ponytail, some pearls and an animal print totally pull it all together and make it fun while still being respectable in an office environment. Oh and don't forget some lip stain. Totally tops it off!

I promise people will start noticing once you begin putting thought into your clothing for work.  Just think, if you're showing up to the office looking like you don't care, the more likely your coworkers are thinking you treat your job the same way. Dress for success!

Print-At-Home

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Did you know that pre-designed print-at-home invitations are only 25 bucks?? By pre-designed, I mean that you pick an invitation that has been already made and (of course change the wording) also change colors to customize. Submit your own text and even logo to fit your event.

The invitation featured has been used as an engagement party invitation with wine glasses and also a bar and tool party with a hammer. Super easy way to make it your own without breaking your party budget.

All pre-made invitations can be found HERE

Email apinchoflovely@gmail.com if you have any questions!

A Penny for your Thoughts

Monday, August 8, 2011

I love these "new modern" designs for your home from Penny Farthing Design House. On the website, new modern is defined as a fusion between handmade and high design - so in other words, we're talking ultra fancy DIY inspiration here.  Which I can totally see... that headboard and mirrored letter scream out handmade luxury.

So basically, look past all the craft glue and scrap fabric stereotyping of do-it-yourself projects. A sophisticated take on handmade is completely possible!

And congrats to Lauren and Lena, the two stationary giveaway winners! One from Facebook comments and one from Google comments. BUT I do know everyone who commented and will always keep that in mind for future giveaways! :)

You can make red and green seem not so Christmas-y if you throw in some other colors. In this case, I used a little turquoise and mustard. Both the patterns and colors really save this white button-up and olive pants from being a snorefest. Work clothes can be FUN, I promise! Just pick fun and unexpected extras to top it off.

I salvaged that green stone from an old necklace this past weekend. Gold jewelry wire made it into a ring and saved it from dumpster action. Amazing what you can come up with when you start looking at old "junk" in different ways!

Better Late than Never!

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Okay so, Michael may have been a little late graduating, but I was a little late posting these announcements as well! I worked with his girlfriend, Lauren, and I think what we came up with is just perfect! The purple and gold played so well off the gray background.

AND summer graduation is coming up! Be sure to give me a shout if you need some graduation announcements!
