UGMONK

I discovered Ugmonk only because my best friend Beau gave me this set of typography notebooks for Christmas. I feel in love with them for two reasons: 1) I love typography. 2) I love notebooks. I am constantly writing things down. I have a notebook at work, a notebook for this blog, and an entire notebook for all of my sales and clients. And these are perfect for sticking in my purse. I can't wait to fill them up! (There's really a recurring paper theme going on with my life if you haven't noticed, yet.)

Since I loved these little guys so much, I went to check out the Ugmonk website to see what other items might amaze me. What I found were these clever typography shirts!

I'm not one for graphic tees, but at the same time, I'm a sucker for letterforms which is why the typography prints so fun to me. And while the designer declines to share the secret of how Ugmonk became the name of his company, it's really not such a secret to why it's so successful!

Christmas with my Sisters

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Just a couple of pictures from Christmas in lieu of an outfit post. If not today, I'm not sure where I can squeeze it in! These are some pictures of the LSU tree in the den, complete with Mike the Tiger as the tree topper! We have this tree every year, but it keeps getting better.

Pictures from Christmas Eve. This is when Brinkley refused to take a "sister" picture bc she was too busy taking quarters out of the slot machine, so Amanda and I took one by ourselves. Consequently, there was a meltdown over by the slots, which by the way is not a Christmas decoration. It's there all year round.

After the meltdown, Brinkley agreed to take a picture with us. After a couple of retakes and her almost turning over the entire table of ornaments behind us, we finally got a framer. Turned out really cute! You almost wouldn't guess that this one shot took about twenty minutes and two different locations.

Decorations on the table for gumbo,  a Christmas Eve tradition. But most times, I stuff myself with the snacks first, and this year was no different.

About to unwrap presents on Christmas morning. About 95% of those presents are torn through by Brinkley in a matter of 10 minutes. Play hair dryers, walking dogs and puzzle pieces everywhere.
By far, one of the most interesting Christmas gifts I've ever received. These were supposed to be wine glasses with mine and Amanda's face painted on them. Which in theory is an original gift. Just not really sure who those people on our glasses are!! I think the decision was unanimous that these look absolutely nothing like the two of us.

I decided to display mine on top of the refrigerator anyway.  Makes me think of Christmas with my two sisters. :)

Bling in the New Year

Got plans for New Year's Eve yet?  If not, check out Geaux Entertainment's party in New Orleans. The party is going to be completely over-the-top this year at the Contemporary Arts Center. (Thus the contemporary paintings on the flyer!) And if you're on the fence about participating, trust me, I know these people and they know how to throw a party. :)

I helped out the Geaux team with their web events and flyers this year, and as a special thanks, they are giving my blog friends a discount! You will get $10 off ticket price when you use "APINCHOFLOVELY" in the promo code box.

And just in case, you're still out searching for the perfect dress, I rounded up some of my favorite metallic options:

In the Neutral Zone

By far one of the most popular necklaces, the neutral color pieces are the hardest for me to keep up with (I had 5 custom requests right before Christmas)! They honestly go with anything - black, brown, cream, gray - which might explain their popularity.

This color will most likely not be up in the Etsy shop anytime soon, as they seem to sell as as soon as I get them completed. Your best bet, if your interested in one, is to send me an email!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holiday! And don't forget to send out thank you cards for all of the lovely gifts you received!

Merry Christmas!!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday! Be thankful for your family and friends, and remember the real reason that we all come together to celebrate.

And don't stuff yourself with sugar cookies - it's too late for me!

Mara Hoffman

I think it's totally appropriate for me to be swooning over these summery Mara Hoffman pieces since it's still 70 degrees in Baton Rouge. Original silk prints get me every time - no matter what time of year it is. So here's hoping that wherever you are, these pictures can get you into a warmer state of mind!

Caroline and Will's Wedding

2

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Last weekend was Caroline and Will's wedding in Baton Rouge! I was so excited to see everyone especially my graphic design bestie, Keri, who moved alllllll the way to Alabama this year. I loved our little reunion. :)

I made a necklace specifically for the dress I wore to the wedding. The dress was tiered, pleated, and ruffled. (I bought it while in Chicago this summer, so I had plenty of time to think about what accessories to wear with it.) The necklace was mostly pale pink and teal, and at the last minute, I decided to add a strand of pearls into it. So literally in the car on the way to the church, I was threading in pearls to match my pearl earrings.

Not only did I have the pleasure of watching Caroline and Will's vows, but I also designed their wedding invitations!

Caroline wanted a romantic invitation with script font on a textured paper stock. I got a sample of natural laid paper and envelopes and just knew she would love her invitations on this paper. The RSVP was a postcard and featured a very extravagant "H" on the front. I combined two different fonts for most of the text and the inks were printed using thermography. I love love love how they came out and was so happy to contribute to their big day.

Congratulations guys!!

A Very Merry HoliDIY

Do-it-yourself Christmas ornaments - an easy and quick way to decorate your tree, garlands or gifts! All you need is empty paper towel rolls, paint color of your choice, paint brush and glue dots.

After flattening the paper towel tube, cut it into equal parts. Paint each of the pieces with whatever color you wish (I chose gold to match my ribbon). When dry, secure the pieces together in a star/snowflake shape using your glue dots. Last, poke a hole in the top and tie on a ribbon!

Depending on how fancy you'd like to get, you could also substitute glue instead of paint and cover each ornament in glitter!

Christmas Cookie Decorating!

Friday, December 17, 2010

For some reason, I've been involved in a lot of cookie baking this Christmas. First, there was the cookie exchange where I returned home with two boxes full of cookies. And now, from the same group that brought you Halloween pumpkin carving, we present our Christmas cookie decorating skills. I think it's safe to say you can expect a Valentine's Day party too.

At the end of it all, we baked three bags of sugar cookies, and if I had it my way, there would have been a fourth. We decorated long into the night - I think about 11 p.m. to be exact. There was flour everywhere, glitter icing, scary-looking gingerbread men and maybe a little competition. Okay yes, so Beau and I argued about the cookie dough, and he accused me of copying his snowflakes, but it was like a giant flashback into graphic design school which was fun.

Now not only do I have a fridge full of cookies (that I've been eating for breakfast), but I think I'm fully in the Christmas spirit!
