Transitional Festival Wear Pt. 1

turquoise ring / similar

How fun was it looking at all of the Coachella outfits from the past two weekends?! While super inspiring, I can't say that they're very practical anywhere else but at... Coachella. So, it gave me the idea to take these festival pieces and show how to wear them in normal day-to-day life. (Get ready for at three part series!)

This Riffraff top is the perfect music fest piece - it's got pattern, sheer flounce and a completely open back. For a festival, I'd pair it with high-waisted jean cutoffs. Otherwise, pairing it with a bottom like cuffed jeans help make showing all that skin slightly less provocative/a teeny bit more conservative.

These red Nine West heels might be the most fun shoetie (sandal + bootie + shoe) I currently have sitting in my closet. They look amazing with cuffed jeans and flowy dresses, so they were a must for this outfit. Getting them in red was sort of an out of the box moment for me, but I've been trying to incorporate more color and less neutrals lately. Now looking back, the red makes for a much more interesting shoe!

Accessory-wise, I tried to mix up the most perfect set or art stacks with the help of Gold + Gray, Betsy Pittard Designs and Sweet Pea & Olive. The wooden beads and natural beads sort of echo the laid back feel of the patterned Riffraff top.

What to Register For - Baking

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

I will come right out and say this - I am not someone who bakes a lot. I hear people say it's therapeutic or relaxing, but baking can turn into a stressful event for me. However, Jordan LOVES cookies, brownies and any other type of baked goods. Thus, I have to bake from time to time, so I need essentials to make it even easier than baking already is. I was super lucky to get gifted many fabulous baking pieces off of my registry at my bridal shower. These are the ones that I've already put to use and think are necessities for any girl whose future husband has a serious sweet tooth:

Cake stands of various sizes

Muffin pans of various sizes - I have jumbo, normal and mini!

At least one brownie or cake pan and in my case - donut pan

A dessert stand to display your hard work!

A wide selection of measuring cups

Dessert or breakfast appliances

Casual Glam

I absolutely adore the laid back, charming spring/summer collection by Willow and Clay. Details like beading paired with soft knits make for an understated luxe - which was the inspiration for today's post. Dressing up to dress down might seem odd, but the finished look is a polished daytime outfit.

This Willow and Clay beaded shift would obviously work for a night out or special occasion, but with a little accessory switch, it can also make it out of the closet for some day appearances as well. Pair a beaded dress like this one with chic leather flats. This pair by Ivanka Trump are ladylike with an ankle strap and gold top strap - a great transitional sandal for this season. (I've been wearing them everywhere.)

For accessories, I wanted to add in a natural element in these layered quartz necklaces. They act as a unexpected complement to the casual sandals. Wearing your bag as a crossbody instead of a shoulder bag also has a way of seeming more casual. This Rebecca Minkoff MAC can be work either way - one of my favorite handbag purchases ever.

So remember these three ways to repurposing your dressier pieces for casual wear:

1. A chic leather shoe
2. Nature inspired jewelry
3. A crossbody bag
